Several law firms in Queensland and here in the Far North have had their emails compromised and their clients have received emails supposedly from the law practice advising them that the law practice’s trust account is being audited and cannot receive funds and directing them to deposit funds usually in relation to the purchase of a property into another account which details they supply.

To our knowledge no client of a law practice has lost funds although we have heard that several accounting firms have transferred funds on receiving emails supposedly from their clients.

If you receive an email from your solicitor or anyone else asking you to transfer funds we highly recommend that you call them and verify that they actually sent the email and to confirm account details before making any transfer.

It is a sad world when we all have to be so careful but our dependence on technology is making us vulnerable in so many ways.  Please be vigilant.
